Bread Pudding / Puding Roti

2:07:00 PM

This is the first time ever I'm going to try and do a bi-language entry. Is it worth the hassle? We'll see.

Okay. On 4th Ramadan, my husband and I was running late that we resorted to buy food from a bazaar nearby because I think it will be impossible for me to prepare food for 4 in such a short span of time (mind you, I am a very slow cook!). But after reaching home I felt a bit guilty so I asked my husband to drop by Aeon Station 18 and buy me few things so that I could whip up a quick desert.

He bought everything I asked him, but a size smaller than I thought. Haha. My fault because I didn’t really specify how many ml of whipping cream I needed. Anyway, that prompted me to modify Kak Nani’s (she’s my mom’s age, but to call her auntie is such a crime! She looked so young!) recipe which I got from her blog, Model 80-an (TQ Kak Nani)!

So here is my first ever bread pudding. I had never ever baked desert (not even a cake) during my 27 years of lifetime so this is considered an achievement. Now, the ingredients:

  • 5 slices of bread - I used gardenia’s white loaf since I had a lot and the expiry date is nearing. :D
  • 1 cup of whipping cream – Hubs bought Arla’s 225 ml Whipping Cream so I just tossed all of them inside
  • 1 cup of full cream milk – Dutch Lady is great
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ tbs of vanilla essence
  • Butter - to grease Pyrex

How I do it:

First I tossed the 3 eggs and sugar into a mixing bowl and whisk them. Combine the mixture with whipping cream, milk, and vanilla essence. Whisk well to combine. Set aside.

Take a casserole dish and grease well with butter. Tear the breads into medium size pieces and lined them up in the dish.

Pour the batter into the dish and let them sit for at least 30 minutes so that the bread soaked up the batter nicely. In the meantime, heat the oven for 10 minutes at 160 degree C.

Make sure the oven is hot when you put the dish inside. Bake for 30 minutes at 160 degree C.

Simple isn’t it? You can always add sultanas on top before baking it, but since Hubs bought an expired box from Aeon (we will go get a refund!), he put slices of dates as substitute. Ha!

While waiting for the pudding to cook, let’s prepare the super simple sauce for the pudding. The ingredients:
  • Full cream milk – can’t specify how much I used since I poured everything from the box, the leftover from lasagne I cooked few weeks back minus 1 cup I had used to prepare the pudding. So in short, not that much.
  • Sugar – as sweet as you like
  • 1 spoonful of flour – we used normal wheat flour because we don’t have corn flour. I would say corn flour would do a better job.
  • 1 tbs of vanilla essence
Simmer the milk till it boils. Add sugar and flour until it thickens. Add vanilla essence and you are done. If you like it cold, chill the sauce for a while before serving.

The outcome:
Yummmyyyy!!!

Not looking that glamorous but the taste was not that bad. I think we undercooked the pudding but Hubs love it, so yeay!
-----------------------------

Haha!

Cukuplah saya membebel, ini bahan-bahannya:
  • 5 keping roti – saya guna roti Gardenia biasa, masih ada banyak dan tarikh luputnya dah dekat lagipun. :D
  • 1 cawan whipping cream – En. Q beli brand Arla, hanya ada 225 ml jadi saya guna semuanya
  • 1 cawan susu full cream – saya guna Dutch Lady
  • ½ cawan gula
  • 3 biji telur
  • ½ sudu teh esen vanila
  • Butter – untuk sapu pada dasar Pyrex
Cara membuatnya:

Bahan-bahannya:
  • Susu full cream – tak tahu banyak mana saya guna. Sebab dah pakai masa buat lasagne minggu lepas dan dah pakai lagi sikit masa buat puding. Saya tuang bagi habis je. Heee…
  • Gula – secukup rasa manis
  • 1 sudu tepung – kami guna tepung cap sauh tu je sebab tak ada tepung jagung. Kalau guna tepung jagung lagi elok rasanya, likat sikit.
  • 1 sudu the vanilla

Panaskan susu full cream. Gula mengikut manis. Apabila mendidih masukkan bancuhan tepung jangung mengikut likat. Bubuh 1 sudu esen vanila. Kacau sehingga halus dan likat. Angkat. Sejukkan.

Hasilnya:
Pakai pinggan yang ada

Taklah nampak macam puding dari dapur hotel 5 bintang kan, tapi rasa dia oklah. Rasanya kami tutup oven cepat sangat kot… tapi yang penting suami suka. Yeay!

Cik Atun: OMG. So tiring! No more bi-language post. Hmph.
