Food To Try: Cream Puff

November 17, 2012
New label? No lah... Just to share what I am up to. Hahaha. Actually I am a bit nervous to bake this particular dessert because of its reputation of not rising properly if done incorrectly but I made up my mind and did it anyway.

Furthermore, my mum and sisters were around that time, so they helped a bit babysitting Haifa when she grew tired/bored playing with her daddy. Seriously, she bores easily. T_T It is nearly impossible to bake anything when only me and hubby were around.

I took the recipe from myresipi, so thank you Yani for sharing the super easy and yummy recipe! And thank you Honey for the delicious custard cream recipe!

Try it for yourself!

Ingredients for cream puff:

100ml water
45g butter at room T
60g sifted all-purpose flour
2 eggs

How to do it:
  1. Preheat your oven at 200 degree C. It is VERY important to make sure your oven is heated thoroughly so that your cream puff will happily rise after you pop it in. Line your baking tray with baking paper.
  2. Stir the eggs until well mixed in a clean bowl.
  3. Melt butter in water on medium heat until they boils. Dump all the flour at once and stir like crazy until the dough forms into a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pot.
  4. Return the pot to heat, stirring gently until you see thin lining of dough formed on the pot and remove from heat.
  5. Dump the stirred eggs in and stir like crazy again. The dough will now become yellow thick paste.
  6. If you got all the time in the world, put the paste in your piping bag and pipe it to whichever size you like. If you are feeling a bit lazy, you can always use spoon and scoop a spoonful of the dough onto the lined baking tray.
  7. Immediately pop them into the well heated oven and bake at 200 degree C for 15 minutes. Turn the heat down to 180 degree C and continue to bake for 25 minutes until browned. If you wanted it to brown even more, let it sit in the oven for a few minutes after the baking time over.
IMPORTANT TIP: DO NOT open your oven no matter what happen before the puffs were done. It will NOT rise properly if you do.
  8. Remove puff from oven and cool on cooling rack before you pipe in any filling you like, be it cream custard or whipped cream.
Clockwise: Puffs in the oven, whilst cooling, the finished product and the over-excited model.

I made these babies with cream custard and they were yummehhhh!!! Unfortunately Haifa also got her first taste of cream custard after being asked to model my puffs (huhu)… Anyway. Will be making these again when I got the time. Till then.

Cik Atun: Should make them bigger to lawan Beard Papa’s. LOL
